For any parent there is no more important responsibility than that of keeping one’s child safe. In the guidebook, How to Lost-Proof Your Child, J. Wayne Fears adapts his great knowledge of wilderness survival to the goal of lost-proofing the child. He divides the book into lost-proofing in suburbia and lost-proofing in the woods. In the section on suburbia, J. Wayne covers possible scenarios; malls, public events, schools and sporting and church events. He discusses the reasons children wander off, provides strategies, ways of teaching children safe behavior and sets down rules that children must follow to remain safe. He then provides a clear and perhaps life saving procedure to follow if a child is lost. When discussing lost-proofing in the back country, J. Wayne draws upon his wilderness expertise to provide the most thorough approach including strategies, rules each child must learn, practice and follow, proper visible clothing and the building of a child’s survival kit. J. Wayne’s advice to parents discusses what to do if your child is missing, how lost children move and provides a thorough discussion on hypothermia. Lost-Proofing Your Child is a must-have book for every family.

    Useful activities with Children

I purchased this book for my daughter who has three children ages 13, 9, and 7. She says it is easy to understand, and put into practice. Being fond of going to parks and hiking as a family, she thought the book to be very useful if they should become separated on the trails. Thank You, N. Perrine
