Join us this Saturday, May 18 at a Community Appreciation & Family Fun Event for Armed Forces Day & 9th Anniversary of Elma’s Made in America Store (10 a.m. – 3 p.m.)

World War II US Marine Corps Veteran Who Survived the Battle of Iwo Jima will be honored!

Question: What’s going on at this year’s celebration?

Andol: At 1000 W. Maple Court in Elma, Ohio-based chainsaw artist and Marine Corps Veteran, Matt Hannah, will create a woodcarving of the second, life-sized Marine in his sculpture series that depicts the Flag-Raising on Iwo Jima, February 1945.
Witnessing Hannah’s chainsaw artistry will be a WWII US Marine Corps veteran who survived this brutal and historic multi-day battle and can be interviewed on Saturday.

Question: Will there also be a special ceremony for Armed Forces Day?

Andol: Yes, at 12 p.m., East Aurora Post 362 – The American Legion, will post the colors. The Pledge of Allegiance will be recited, Nashville recording artist Ricky Lee will sing the National Anthem and an announcement regarding Buffalo Niagara Honor Flight will be made, capped off with a ceremonial ribbon cutting for its first ever brick & mortar HQ.

Question: Is there other entertainment?

Yes, a Southern Rock fan favorite and Lynyrd Skynyrd cover band, DiamondBack, will perform from 1 – 2 p.m.

Question: What else will be featured?

A Marketplace of Made in America Store products, food and beverage vendors will provide free samples.

A moving display of diamond-etched, granite Patriot Plaques will be installed, as a tribute to the fallen, together with a Meet & Greet with Scott Teller, the artist.

Question: What else can visitors expect?

Andol: Mikey Dee’s farm-to-table food truck will feature his most popular menu items at family-friendly prices.Michael DiJoseph is a veteran of the US Air Force whose son currently serves in the US Navy.
