Celebrate Flag Day: Honoring the Symbol of Our Nation

Every year on June 14th, Americans come together to celebrate Flag Day—a day devoted to the emblem that has represented our country for more than two centuries: the American flag.

The American flag carries meaning that goes far beyond its appearance. It’s a symbol rooted in sacrifice, shaped by history, and recognized around the world as a mark of who we are.

The Origin of Flag Day

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the first official U.S. flag on June 14, 1777, when the Continental Congress passed a resolution:

“That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field…”

As the country grew, the flag evolved—but its meaning has remained constant. In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson officially recognized June 14 as Flag Day, encouraging Americans to reflect on what the flag represents.

While not a federal holiday, Flag Day is widely observed by communities, schools, and veterans’ groups as a time to honor the ideals behind the flag.

Why It Matters Where Your Flag Is Made

Most people are surprised to learn that a large percentage of American flags sold in the U.S. are imported—with millions coming from overseas each year.

At the Made in America Store, we believe the flag that stands for American freedom should be made in America.

That’s why we carry only 100% American-made flags, crafted by two of the most respected manufacturers in the industry: Annin Flagmakers and Valley Forge. Their flags are certified by the Flag Manufacturers Association of America (FMAA), which confirms that every part of the flag—from fabric to final assembly—is made entirely in the United States.

When you choose an American-made flag, you’re not just honoring a symbol—you’re supporting the workers, communities, and values behind it.

If you believe in what the flag stands for, make sure the one you fly is made in America. We carry only certified U.S.-made flags—available in-store and online here.

More Than a Flag

This Flag Day, take a moment to reflect on what the American flag truly stands for—and how much more powerful it becomes when it’s made in the country it represents.

From all of us at the Made in America Store, thank you for choosing products that support American workers and preserve our nation’s manufacturing future.
